WOWS News Round Up 6th February 2013

MP’s vote in favour of gay marriage

This has been a big story in the news this week as lots of people have differing opinions on the issues. It has been hailed as a landmark moment though in terms of equality. As covered in the recent WOWS blog post “You’re Gay, Right” gay people were already entitled to marry in what was known as a civil ceremony. Now though it seems that the gay community will now be able to marry legally in a church should the church allow them to. The big news to come from this however that was over half of the Torie MP’s voted against gay marriage, how unexpected, we have always thought the Torie party was a fair, honest, equality driven party.

Lib Dem Chris Huhne pleads guilty to perverting the court of justice

Another politician causing controversy now as Lid Dem Chris Huhne admitted he had pleaded with his ex-wife to take his 3 points for speeding. What a pleb – is how another politician might have described in. It’s good news that the truth came out and he finally admitted guilt however it’s not great news for Aston Villa Football Club who made a list ditch attempt to get Chris Huhne’s 3 points and they were all set to claim them but at the last-minute Aston Villa’s defence team slipped up and they lost out on the 3 points.

Ashley Cole gets his 100th England Cap

Ashley Cole picked up his 100th international cap in England’s friendly game against Brazil. Ashley apparently likes to wear his caps side ways while shooting academy players with an air gun.

Human remains found under a car park in Leicester is King Richard III

Scientists have confirmed that the skeleton is that of King Richard III. It must have been the classic male mistake of coming out of the supermarket and not remembering where you had parked the car for King Richard sadly Richard must have been looking for it for so long that he starved. It apparently cost thousands of pounds worth of research to work out whether this skeleton dating back to as early as 1455 was that of the king. Why didn’t they just ask Bruce Forsyth who was surely in his 40’s around that time?

The route of the new high-speed train network linking Birmingham to Manchester and Leeds is announced
The transport secretary has announced the route which apparently stop at 5 stations. The route was actually supposed to be announced a couple of weeks ago but instead the announcement was delayed due to a shortage of staff, it was then cancelled until further notice and then they decided to do the announcement on a replacement bus service instead. There has been a lot of criticism of the proposed route due to the fact it cuts through the picturesque country side – by this we don’t think they are referring to Birmingham. The Department For Transport has claimed the new high-speed rail will reduce journey times by half which is good because that means we will only be stuck on the platform for half an hour rather than a full hour.

French troops have taken control of Timbuktu airport in Mali
French led troops who are fighting in Mali against Islamist rebels have taken control of the airport in key city Timbuktu. This is quite an achievement as we have always been led to believe Timbuktu was impossible to get to. Imagine the instructions to the troops. “You must get from here to Timbuktu”. That particular phrase has commonly been used in the past to describe a very, very far away location, virtually impossible to get to. So the fact that the troops have managed it is great. Although the fact that there is an airport in Timbuktu probably suggest that it’s not that impossible to get to and perhaps they should re-work the phrase. Possibly to “from here down to the next junction on the M62” would nowadays be a more appropriate phrase as the M62 is more impossible to conquer in terms of travel.

Iran claims it has sent a monkey into space

Iran is claiming that it has successfully flown a monkey into space and back and takes Iran one step closer to achieving a manned space flight. Obviously Iran is quite far behind the likes of the US and Russia but it is a great achievement for them. In comparison to our British achievements Iran sending to a monkey into space is about the same as the UK’s David Beckham finally learning how to tie his shoe laces or David Cameron remembering to take his young daughter home from the pub. The last achievement for the UK involving a primate and space was quite recently when Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney volleyed a shot over the crossbar out of Old Trafford and into space which hit a man called Felix who was stargazing, this resulted in Felix losing his balance who then fell 20 odd miles from his rocket.

WOWS News Round Up 22nd January 2013

Reports that suicide rates are up to over 6,000 in 2011.

Many are linking the ongoing financial crisis resulting in high unemployment to the increased suicide rates. Our advice is that if your feeling really really down and out, fed up, depressed, feeling like there is no way out of your current situation….then your probably George Osbourne and should seek urgent advice.

President Obama’s Inauguration has been all over the news.
It was a big glitzy affair for President Obama at his inauguration which ended in an Inauguration ball. Part of this included soul singer Alicia Keys performing a version of “Girl on Fire” instead cleverly changing the words to “Obamas on fire”. We were expecting security around the president to be so tight that his bouncers would run on with a massive bucket of water and completely soak the president. Sadly this didn’t happen.

It was funny to watch all the Americans waving their little american flags, wearing American flagged  hats and clothes, getting all patriotic and turning up in their thousands just to see the president …silly Americans…we don’t do things like that here in the UK! Well apart from the Royal Wedding….and the Jubilee, oh and the Olympics, and  I’m looking forward to waving around my little Union Jack flag for the Royal baby. But other than that, no, we aren’t like the Americans at all.

It has been reported that Bradley Wiggins is not likely to be defending his Tour de France title

Bradley Wiggins has said it is unlikely he will be defending his Tour de France title this year as his team-mate Chris Froome will be leading Team Sky. Wiggins has also claimed that he shaved off his sideburns in a bid to avoid becoming an idol as he doesn’t want to be seen as a celebrity and by getting rid of his side burns people will stop dressing as him etc. We wouldn’t worry about it Bradley, your never going to make the papers as much as Lance Armstrong.

Celebrity Big Brother

Although not huge Celebrity Big Brother fans we did notice that as part of a task former X-Factor contestant Rylan Clarke had to shave off part of his beard of which he chose his sideburns. He seemed to be very annoyed by this so it makes perfect sense that perhaps Bradley Wiggins could have donated his sideburns to Rylan?

According to reports, Big Brother fans have been outraged after it has been revealed that Rylan has been allowed to secretly leave the house rehearse for the X-Factor tour. We understand exactly how fans feel about this, the fact that Rylan is still trying to sing and dance is a complete outrage.

BBC News is reporting on Lib Dem MEP Sir Graham Watson being reprimanded by his own party over an inappropriate tweet in which he commented on David Cameron postponing a speech on Europe due to the hostage situation in Algeria. The tweet allegedly said “Al Qaeda 1 @David Cameron 0”

Waste of Web Space view: Well yet again we have another situation where we can’t trust politicians with Twitter. Come to think of it can we actually trust politicians with anything? Come to think of it can we trust politicians? It’s almost like a bunch of old men have got all excited about being cool enough to use twitter. Finally a tool where boring folk are able to fit in and express their opinions to the world. Perhaps politicians were the uncool kids at school and twitter is a bit of a way at hitting back and saying “no, look at me, I’m popular now!”. Well all we would have to respond to this is simply “Twitter 1 @grahamwatsonmep 0”

On the plus side though Sir Graham Watson has thought up quite an interesting idea. You see these things on the television such as Superstars where soap stars and celebrities take part in Olympic based sports. Why not do something similar where politicians and world leaders have a football match with Al Qaeda? Surely this would be a more civilised way to battle against terrorism. After all football is the language of the world? So for this concept, we thank you Sir Graham Watson. Certainly something to consider. “Twitter 1 @grahamwatsonmep 1”.

The Daily Mail is reporting that Apple are planning to start making iPhone 5s in March with view to a summer launch.

Well Waste of Web Space is at the forefront of modern technology and we have already been working closely with Apple on not the iPhone 5s but the iPhone 6. Have a look at our prototype

iPhone 6

More on Katie Price and her 3rd marriage again now as The Sun reports that a Psychic told her to marry again. Now we would love to know how much her Psychic is being paid because we could easily predict that this 3rd marriage will probably end within the next 6 months and this time next year she will be marrying her 4th husband. That could have just earned us a fortune…if we were a psychic organisation. We wonder if the psychic also predicted that Katie Price probably had a new series of her reality tv series “Katie” coming up this year and probably desperately needed something remotely interesting to film? In fact, if we use our psychic abilities we could probably predict that Katie Price’s psychic is also her TV producer?

Many are reporting on the snow which has spread across the UK

Well it happens every year and still we all go into a mad panic/excitement about it. Theres no bread or milk in the shops because everyone has bought it all. It makes us wonder though, how much bread and milk are the UK public planning to consume in the snow crisis? Do we all go on a binge session of bread and milk just because it snows? According to reports Wales has been hit worse. No internet access or electricity…and then it started to snow.

Waste of Web Space and been going through the newspapers this week….

The Daily Mail is reporting today that two crane drivers are the luckiest men in Britain. They should have been in the crane above a sky scraper when a helicopter crashed into it, however they overslept… They might think they are lucky but now they have a lot more work to do on the building. Obviously the moral of the story is stay in bed and be late for work every single day.

The Sun is reporting on Katie Price’s third marriage. Here at Waste of Web Space we are looking forward to the Philip Schofield and Fern Britton presented All Star Mr & Mrs on ITV and the episode featuring Katie Price. Its going to be called “Mr & Mr & Mr and Mrs”

The Mirror Newspaper  is reporting on the decline of Blockbuster video rental.Waste of Web Space has heard that the Administrators of Blockbuster have announced plans to make a film about its demise . We wouldn’t mind renting that out when it’s released. The other issue of course for Blockbuster was the erotic film and porn industry which has seen its industry flourish online. The problem for Blockbuster was that short bald men just couldn’t reach the top shelf. Failing to move the DVDs down a shelf or two has probably cost it millions.

Several newspapers are also reporting on Lance Armstrong and the TV interview in which he comes clean about using performing enhancing drugs throughout his cycling career, it is believed that he wants to return to cycling competitions – We suppose that if they don’t let him return to competitive cycling then he should probably look to try another Sport? One that is perhaps clean of scandals such as drug use…perhaps Horseracing?
